Life Force

richard schwartz Life Force is by far Ruttenberg's quintessential work of art. From the silky sax (Crimson Sky and Smboadouro) to the crafty base rifts on Mercurial Spheres, this album soars through the ethos. Mystical, hypnotic and transcendent are an understatement of this masterpiece of soul searching madness. Ruttenberg's creativity knows no bounds!

about

The impulse for creating this album is my sincere love of the music of Sergio Mendes. The tune Sambadouro literally means life force and I got the idea after listening to Sergio's album Brasilero (there is a song called Sambadouro on the album and I love it a lot). Life Force also reminds me that we have a divine spark from above when we are born and I feel that within me at all times. I remember going to see a doctor in Pittsburgh a long time ago and he wanted to know what I felt about my health. I told him though I have aches and pains like everyone else, I nevertheless felt strong within and that my divine spark is completely in tact. He liked that answer. Life Force is all about creation, too. As many of you know, I am enthralled by everything beyond the confines of Earth. We are sadly so consumed with all the terrible stuff going on in our world that we forget that there is endless wonderment beyond the clouds. I think the entire point of us being here is to bring G-dliness down to Earth. We'd better start doing this now.

This album took us well over a year to complete. I sent the charts to saxophonist Carl Cox, bassist Eddie Kohen, and guitarist Joe Berger. These superb musicians truly turned in exceptional performances and helped fuel the idea, at least in my head, that these tunes will endure and be relevant for years to come. For me, that is the aim of creating original, meaningful music. My sincere hope is that these original compositions will please you. We humbly ask you to please support the arts and purchase this digital download. Every dollar earned goes right back into creating future music. Thank you kindly, Richard

Special thanks to Yofi J. Odesser for her love and unending laughter. The woman is funny. Many thanks to my pal, Mikey Podobnik, for his friendship & shared sense of humor. Thanks to my executive producer Sherry Mandel Podobnik for her continued support and kinship. Sherry is a great friend to me. Thanks to My lovely "Mumsy", Sandy Bennett Ruttenberg for the gift of music and for being the best Mum ever. Thanks to musicians Carl Cox, Eddie Kohen, and Joe Berger for their artistry and serious professionalism. A very heartfelt thanks to all our fans around the world for continuing to purchase our music and spreading the word about Ruttenberg Fusion!

Personal note: Joe Berger is an incredibly talented sound engineer as well as a guitarist. Joe truly saved this project after my computer had crashed and some of the files were lost. I was able to relocate them through a convoluted path, but the original mixes on Logic Pro X could not be retrieved, and thus, we had to work with the final mixes I had completed to that point. I was terribly afraid the quality of the songs would suffer, but Joe got hold of a brand new Eventide EQ plug in that saved the day and propelled the tunes to even higher elevations. I could not be more pleased. Great work, Joe! Also, bassist Eddie "Motown" Kohen continues to hang with me album after album and he is just the coolest cat out there and nothing phases him at all. He simply has the best attitude and he always wants to get the music right and I love him for that, truly. A man after my own heart. A pleasure to work with, Eddie never fails to deliver. Thank you, man. Saxophonist Carl Cox is new to the "Ruttenberg Fusion" world and I am so proud of myself for finding him, cultivating a relationship with him, and convincing him to play on two songs. He is a brilliant artist in his own right and is in demand as a session player for a multitude of high profile artists. Thank you, Carl! You are incredible.
